Rev Run has some words of wisdom for wannabe Beyoncés in search of their Jay-Zs in shining armor. The co-author of Manology: Secrets Of Your Man’s Mind Revealed, offers what he believes is the secret of King Bey’s relationship succes.
“How does a woman maintain her power and capture Mr. ‘Big Pimpin’,” he asked, in an interview with Radio.com. “Beyoncé did it flawlessly.”
Beyoncé and Jay-Z were married in 2008 in a private affair. The power couple, who topped Forbes‘ “Highest Paid Celebrity Couples” list in 2012, originally kept their relationship under wraps and away from the public eye.
The perennial bachelor image Jay-Z portrayed during his “Big Pimpin’” days was among the factors that piqued the public’s interest in the couple. On the single, “Big Pimpin’,” which was released in 2000, he rhymed about his longstanding love affair with his money, which no woman could come between.
“I parts with nothin’, y’all be frontin’/ Me give my heart to a woman?/ Not for nothin’, never happen, I’ll be forever mackin’/ Heart cold as assassins, I got no passion”
To melt Jay’s icy veneer, Run pointed to Beyoncé’s inner fire. He explained how she was happy to see Jay-Z but always went “back to work” on herself.
“[Beyoncé] danced, sang, spoke–perfect steps, that’s what Ruth did in the Bible,” Rev Run continued, referencing a story from the Old Testament’s Book of Ruth.

“Boaz came to town and all the girls swooned,” he said. “I don’t think [Ruth] didn’t notice that Boaz was in town. She had work to do. She probably wasn’t dumb, she cared a little.”
After a time of working in Boaz’s fields, the wealthy and powerful Boaz took Ruth as his wife. While the story has many complications and turns, the moral for Run has to do with how Ruth conducted herself.
“Don’t go so hard where you are not interested at all,” he said. “Keep singing, dancing and get your steps right. And get ready for Jay-Z to call. That’s how you can catch and keep a man.”
